Lock Nuts and Washers

Lock nuts are used to locate bearings onto a shaft. They can additionally be used to mount bearings with a tapered bore onto tapered shaft and adapter sleeves, and to dismount bearings from withdrawal sleeves. Lock nuts can also be used to secure belt pulleys, gears, and other machine parts.

To secure the lock nuts on the shaft a locking washer that engages a keyway in the shaft or key slot in the adapter sleeve can be used, or a locking mechanism integrated in the nut.

Lock nuts can, if they are not damaged, be reused. A new lock washer should be used each time the corresponding lock nut is reinstalled.

Self locking Lock Nuts

Self locking lock nuts do not require a groove in the shaft. Their installation is quick and easy to accomplish, since no loose security elements are to be handled and therefore often provide a better economic solution.

All locknuts are reusable if undamaged.

Lock Washers

Locking washers secure smaller lock nuts over the four evenly distributed retaining grooves on the circumference of the lock nut, where the securing latches of the locking plates are bent to engage in them.

When replacing a lock nut the matching locking washer should be replaced with it.
